Your Default Location, Pre-Selected
Every screen that asks you to choose a location now starts on a sensible default — so you’re not picking the same warehouse from a dropdown every single time. You can still change it whenever you need to.
Which location is the default?
The default is your primary shipping location— the physical location you mark as primary on the Locationspage. If you haven’t marked one, the app falls back to your first location. Because everything keys off that single setting, you control every default in one place: change your primary location on the Locations page and it flows through the whole app.
A pre-selected location is only ever filled in when the field is still empty. If you pick a different location, the app never overrides your choice.
Marketplace-managed locations (Amazon FBA, Amazon AWD, and Walmart WFS) are never offered for manual receiving, counts, or adjustments, so the default is always one of your own physical locations.
Receiving a purchase order
When you record a receipt, the location defaults to the ship-to location on the purchase order itself— the place the goods were headed. That’s usually exactly where you’re standing when the boxes arrive, so receiving a full or partial shipment is one click: open the PO, choose Receive, enter the quantities you actually got, and Record Receipt. If the PO has no ship-to location, it falls back to your primary location.
Location is required to record a receipt. If it’s ever empty — for example on an older PO with no ship-to — the app tells you so when you click Record Receipt, rather than appearing to do nothing.
Transfers
A new transfer pre-fills the From (source) location with your primary location, since stock most often moves out of your main warehouse. The To(destination) is left blank on purpose — the destination is the part that actually changes from one transfer to the next, so it’s always a deliberate choice.
Everywhere else you pick a location
The same default applies across the app, always editable:
Physical inventory counts— starting a new count session defaults to your primary location.
Bill-of-materials builds and unbuilds— the build, unbuild, and bulk-build screens default to your primary location.
Stock adjustments and inventory import/export— already defaulted, and now reliably land on your primary location even when it isn’t one of your pinned columns.
Report filters (such as the Inventory Valuation report) are left on All locations by design, since a report usually wants the full picture.
Changing your default location
Go to the Locations page, edit the location you want as your default, and mark it as the primary shipping location. Only one physical location can be primary at a time, so setting a new one moves the marker off the old one.
From then on, every location picker across the app starts on that location — and you can still change it on any individual screen whenever a job calls for a different one.
