Importing Shopify Bundles as BOMs
Turn the bundles you built with the Shopify Bundles app into Bills of Materials, so bundle sales track their components and record accurate cost of goods.
Why convert bundles to BOMs?
A Shopify bundle doesn’t need its own cost — the cost lives in the items inside it. But unless Carpe Inventory IQ knows what’s inside a bundle, it can’t track those items when the bundle sells. Bundles imported as ordinary products leave their component counts overstated and record no cost of goods on a bundle sale. Turning a bundle into a Bill of Materials fixes both: every sale draws down the right components and rolls up the true cost of goods.
Step-by-step guide
Connect Shopify
The import reads your bundles directly from Shopify, so your store must be connected first. If you see an Import from Shopify button on the BOMs page, you’re connected. If you don’t, the button is hidden until a supported store is linked.
The button only appears for merchants with an active Shopify connection. Support for other primary stores will appear in the same place as it is added.
Make sure the components exist as SKUs
A bundle becomes a recipe, so each item inside it has to exist in your catalog as its own SKU. If a component isn't in Carpe Inventory IQ yet, import or create it first. Bundles with missing components are skipped during the preview (you won't lose them — they're just listed so you know what to add).
Open the importer
Go to BOMs in the left menu, then click Import from Shopify in the top right. Carpe Inventory IQ reads every bundle you built with the Shopify Bundles app and matches each bundle and its contents to your SKUs.
Review the preview
You'll see two lists. Ready to import shows each bundle Carpe Inventory IQ can fully match, with the components and quantities it found inside — every one is checked by default, and you can uncheck any you want to leave out. Skipped shows bundles it didn't convert, each with a plain reason (its components aren't in your catalog yet, or it already has a recipe).
Nothing is created while you review. The preview never changes your products, your bundles, or your existing recipes.
Confirm the import
Click Import to create a Dynamic BOM for each selected bundle. From then on, a sale of that bundle automatically draws down the right components and records the correct cost of goods — on Shopify and on any other channel mapped to the same SKU. You can run the import again later as you add new bundles; anything already converted is skipped, so it's safe to repeat.
It only ever adds — it never changes your existing data
The importer only creates new Bills of Materials. It never edits or deletes your products, your Shopify bundles, or any recipe you already have. A bundle that already has a BOM is skipped, so running the import more than once never creates a duplicate. Your Shopify Bundles app setup is untouched throughout.
Where Dynamic BOMs show up — and where they don’t
Once a bundle becomes a Dynamic BOM, it isn’t something you buy, build, or move on its own — it breaks down into its components as it sells, and never holds stock of its own. So Carpe Inventory IQ leaves Dynamic BOMs out of the SKU search anywhere you’re working with real, stockable items: choosing line items on a purchase order, picking the finished product or components for a Bill of Materials, and adding items to a transfer. That way the SKU you’re looking for isn’t buried under every color and size of a Dynamic BOM. Manufacturing assemblies still appear on purchase orders, since those are genuine buy-or-build items.
Your Dynamic BOMs are never hidden from the catalog itself. On the SKUs page, the Dynamic BOMs filter lets you switch between All Items, Hide Dynamic BOMs when you want to focus on individual products, and Dynamic BOMs Only when you want to review just your recipes.
